This ticket does not refund. It is the one product here outside the 24-hour cancellation window. If your date is not certain, one of the guided departures bundles the same admission with a full refund up to 24 hours before.
Which time slot to pick
Entry runs in windows, and your ticket is valid for the one you choose: 9:30am for an entrance between 9:30 and 11:00, then 11:00, 1:00pm and 3:00pm on the same two-hour pattern. Two things decide the choice.
- 9:30am — The quietest hour of the day inside the building. Travellers who take it consistently say the same thing: get there early.
- 11:00am and 1:00pm — When the coach parties from Paris arrive. Busiest on the Grande Rue and busiest at the door.
- 3:00pm — Quiet again, with the light on the bay behind you as you come out onto the west terrace. One reviewer recommends the late afternoon outright.
Allow two to three hours for the visit itself, which is what travellers who have done it advise. Remember that last admission is an hour before the abbey closes, whichever slot you hold.

The €6 Tablette Revelacio is a handheld reconstruction sold at the monument, and guided tours are bookable on site. Neither is inside this fare. Everything below the abbey costs nothing at all: the Grande Rue, the parish church and the ramparts are free and open at any hour, as the planning page sets out.

- You want the building explained. This is entry and a booklet; the guided walks put a licensed guide inside with you.

Getting to the door
The abbey entrance sits at the top of the village, at the end of the Grande Rue. Getting there means the mainland car park, the free shuttle or the forty-minute walk, then around 200 steps up through the village before you reach the ticket check. The shuttle page has the timetable and the 350-metre walk at the far end; parking has the tariff.
Know before you go
- Bring photo identification. A passport or identity card. The free-entry categories are checked at the door.
- Around 350 steps in total. Roughly 200 up the Grande Rue and 150 inside, and the abbey is not suitable for anyone with a mobility impairment.
- Pushchairs must be folded. Inside the abbey, and the steps make it hard work either way.
- Large bags and pets stay outside. Assistance dogs excepted. Unaccompanied minors are not admitted.
- The abbey closes three days a year. 1 January, 1 May and 25 December.

Full adult admission is €16. The village, the Grande Rue and the ramparts below the abbey are free and open at all hours — the ticket buys you the abbey itself.
Do I need to book abbey tickets in advance?
You do not have to, but a timed slot means you walk past the ticket window rather than queue at it, and slots for the middle of the day go first in summer. Most organised departures include the ticket in the fare.
Who gets into Mont Saint-Michel Abbey free?
Under-18s visiting as a family, 18 to 25-year-olds who are EU citizens or regular residents in France, holders of the French disability mobility card and one companion, and jobseekers with a certificate less than six months old. Bring photo identification, because the age categories are checked.
Is the village free to enter?
Yes. There is no gate charge for the island, the Grande Rue, the parish church or the rampart walk, and none of them closes at night. Parking on the mainland and the abbey ticket are the only two things you pay for.
Is Mont Saint-Michel wheelchair accessible?
The mainland esplanade, the shuttle and the lower village are manageable. The abbey is not: the climb involves several hundred steps, and every listing here states that it is not wheelchair accessible.
